Hi Alyce:
It sure does work!! I installed LBWorkshop 4.9.2 IN VISTA as the administrator. It works just fine and the loss of drop down window is fixed. Thanks a ton.

I have LBW 4.6.0 which purchased the registration some time ago and just saw that you've upgraded the program to 4.9.2. I downloaded the file and tried to install it and had problems.
First, I run WinXP Prowith SP2. The problem I'm having is that it says 'Setup cannot continue because some system file are out of date on your system. Click OK if you would like setup to update to update these files for you now.' Well, I've tried it twice including having the setup program reboot my system and I still get the error message.
What do I need to do to get this process moving? I haven't updated WinXP in quite a while since a friend of mine put it on my system. However, I have purchased a legitimate copy of WinXP since then but have not figured how to get the authentication 'restarted' such that I can get my copy of WinXP upgraded
A second question, since I purchased the registration for 4.6.0, is it good for the 4.9.2 version or will I have to purchase another registration activation?

Hi,
Updates are free forever, so no new registration needs to be purchased.
Have you tried to run the newest LBW? Or does it fail to be installed? Do a check and see if it exists in the location you chose to install it and see if it runs properly.
I use the installer that is part of the software. Perhaps I can create a separate installation file, using a different installer for anybody who is having problems. I've received no other reports of problems, so I don't know what might be causing the problem.

Thanks for the reply!
It was failing to install since it said there were files on my system which were older than the ones in the lbworkshop.cab
I've 'created' a solution which seems to have worked, but I'm not sure what problems I'll run into later.
I did some investigation and found that only two of the files in the cab were 'newer' than the ones on my system. Theses files were msvcrt.dll and scrrun.dll. I extracted the these files and 'tried to copy them to the Windows\system32 folder. However, my system kept 'changing' them back to the older files (drat!). So I tried a different tactic and edited the SETUP.LST to reflect the information of the files on my system, date, actual size and version number and that worked. I was able to install the newer version of lbworkshop and it does show that it is indeed registered (thanks!)
As I said, I don't know what problems I'll run into later, but at least the program does seem to work for some functions. Sometime later this year, I'll be buying a newer, faster system (the one I using now I put together in 1999[an ancient machine!!] and only runs at 733MHz!) and then I can get this one reformatted and refurbished!?!
Thanks,
Frank Jordan

Frank, I don't think you'll have any problems. I'm glad you worked out a solution!

Hi Alyce,
I tried to e-mail this to you, but it was returned twice, as "no such address here", so I am going to post it here.
I downloaded LBW a while back, and it just sat on my computer. I recently started working with it, and decided to buy. I did, and inserted the registration key. Everything was fine, till today, when I noticed that my version was 4.8.2, and the current version on your web site was 4.9.2, so I downloaded and installed the new version. It said it installed okay, I started LBW, it showed the version as 4.9.2 - registered and I thought everything was okay. When I tried to access the "Snippet Workshop", it reported "Run Time Error 70: Permission denied." When I close the error notice, then LBW closes. What did I do wrong, and how can I correct it? I am running Win XP SP2, with all current updates. Thanks for your help.

Michael, I'm sorry about the returned email. I've recently had such a huge flood of spam that I've had to turn off all mail from my domain. I believe spam bots are now good at harvesting addresses written as "name at domain dot com". I'll have to change the way I display the support email address.
Your problem: I had to change the way files were written and accessed for the tools so that LBW will run on Vista. I'm guessing that your problem is related to that change. Try searching your registry and removing all keys and values for "LBWorkshop" and see if that fixes the problem. You'll have to submit your registration password again.
Does this happen with other tools? Things like programmer's comments?
I'll have a look and see if I can work out what might be wrong. Thanks for the heads-up.

No I had no problems with the "programmer comments", but I didn't try any of the other tools. I'm just starting to learn LBW. I un-installed LBW, then removed all the "LB Workshop" entries from the registry, re-booted and then re-installed LBW. This fixed the problem. One other question. I'm getting older and my eyesight is getting worse. Is there any way to adjust the font size or face for the Snippet Workshop? I can barely read it , it is so small on my laptop. I was able to adjust the main code window's font, but cannot find a way to adjust the Snippet workshop window. Thanks. Michael M. Mahoney mmahoney@cox.net

There is no way to adjust it, but I can certainly add that feature to the next update. Thanks for the comments!

Hi Alyce
I have recently bought a new computer and a few days ago I installed (current versions) LB and LBW on it. Unfortunately the new computer is running vista and I am having problems. When I open an LB file from LBW and try to run it I get error messages ( initial one is "Path/File access error!") along with "Error creating file to run" which comes up when I close the window of the initial error message. I have all the paths set correctly in the preferences.
Liberty basic also gives me a message saying that the LBasic400.ini file cannot be written to. The error message also says "this can happen when running LB from a CD Rom or restoring from a cd rom or other backup, making restored files read only.
I tried loading a (current version) copy of LB copied from my laptop(XP +SP2) into my user area of the new machine and found that after pointing to it with the right path in preferences, LBW works fine with this - no error messages of any kind - but it is quite puzzling why I cannot use both LBW and LB togetherdirectly from the program files area.
I'm afraid I wouldn't know what to do if the problem is registry based but could it be lack of compatability with vista in some way that you are aware of?
BTW LB works on its own from both user area and program file area on the new machine except the program file copy does still give the error about the LBasic.ini file. However this does not seem to stop LB working properly as far as I can tell. So I think it is primarily something that is not working from the LBW side.
Kind regards and thans in anticipation of any help you might be able to give.
